Digitally purchasing games from online retailers has become the normal in our current digitally focused world. Not only does it make it easier to purchase your games from home, but gives you the safety of knowing the game is yours; or so we thought.

Gamers in Myanmar woke up to find out that they not only couldn’t play their games, but their Origin accounts were banned. Residents of Myanmar are welcomed to a message stating “Access Denied”, with Origin no longer being offered. According to Dark Side of Gaming.com, this ban may be the result of US sanctions against Myanmar (these sanctions were lifted October 7th though).

With the mass banning in Myanmar, it does bring up the question one what happens if Origin were to go down in other countries? Remember to be cautious when purchasing your games everyone!

Update (10/31)- For those in Myanmar who are unable to access their games EA has recognized the problem, and are working towards repairs.

“We are working to restore access to Origin for our players in Myanmar. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we’ll share updates on timing as soon as possible.”
