While absent from EA’s E3 Play event, details for the upcoming NHL 18 has surfaced during the 2017 NHL Awards.
During 2017 NHL Awards, a plethora of details were released regarding the upcoming NHL 18 including the game’s cover star in the form a gameplay trailer.
Alongside with the announcement of the game’s cover star, 20-year-old Oilers Center Connor McDavid, new gameplay features and game mode changes have also been announced.
The two largest changes to the gameplay deal with Creative Attack controls, and Defensive Skill Stick. For offensive gameplay, the Creative Attack controls allow players to execute highlight reel moves such as between-the-legs maneuvers and much more. The Defensive Skill stick allow players to perform poke-check targeting and controlled stick sweeps.
For fans of the series’ franchise mode, an expansion draft option has been added. The Ultimate Team mode has also added new features such as solo challenges. For those new to the series, a new Hockey Training Camp mode will be included to help new and long time players hone their skills.
According to a press release, three modes will be added to the game.
“arcade-inspired experience with fast-paced, over-the-top action that features faster gameplay, bigger hits, and high-scoring action.” This can be played in local co-op or online against other players, while there’s also a campaign mode where you work through a circuit and unlock unspecified, “objective-based” rewards. 3-on-3 gameplay is also introduced to EA Sports Hockey League mode.
NHL 18 launches September 15th for PS4 and Xbox One. Members of EA Access with be able to play up to 10 hours beginning September 7th (exclusive to Xbox One). Alternatively, preordering the Young Star or Young Stars Deluxe editions will provide unlimited access to the full game starting on September 12. These special editions come with a McDavid-themed celebration and Ultimate Team content, among other bonuses.
