E3 2021’s In-Person Events Canceled

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, this really shouldn’t be a surprise.

While reported coronavirus cases have dropped in recent months, locations across the globe continue to play it safe when it comes to events with large gatherings. With that being said, the upcoming E3 event set in California has been canceled according to a presentation on the city of Los Angeles’ website. Now, this does not state that the event will not happen at all as it may be more of a digital event. The presentation states:

“Cancelled live event in 2021. Working with production team on broadcast options at LA Live/LACC. Working on 2022 & 2023 license”.

The ESA has promised a “reimagined” E3 event so considering the statement above, expect more of a streaming-based event this year. With many big players such as Sony, EA, Nintendo, and more leaving E3 behind, this move could be more important than you think. Considering the success of Playstation’s State of Play, and the Nintendo Direct Events, you wouldn’t be wrong to believe the E3 event in general honestly can’t go without a showcase as it sadly is becoming less important in recent years.
