Easily the most anticipated game to be shown at today’s State of Play event, a slew of details were revealed for the highly anticipated Last of Us 2. The largest announcement that we’ve been waiting for is the release date. We can now confirm that the Last of Us 2 will release February 21, 2020, which isn’t too far of a wait considering the first trailer for the game released back in 2016.

Alongside learning the release date of the game, we’re given more details regarding the game’s story. Based on the trailer we can assume that Ellie will serve as the protagonist to this game, which isn’t a surprise, however there will be more than a few returning faces we’ll get into in a second. The first character we see in the trailer is Dina, the girl that Ellie kisses in the E3 2018 trailer. We see that Dina and Ellie have a closer bond as they go on missions together in the trailer. As we see later in the trailer, Ellie comes across a traumatic event that leads to the events of the game; quite possibly involving Dina.

As the trailer continues we see the return of Tommy and his brother Joel; yes Joel will return for the second game, and he isn’t dead! Though there isn’t much else to go off of, the gameplay looks just as gruesome as the past trailers for the title, so expect a pretty gritty game!
