Top 10 Characters Who Could Join Smash Bros. Ultimate

0

Let’s be honest, these characters have the highest chance of being in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Creating a list of characters who we want to see in Smash Bros. Ultimate is a death wish. First off, it’s hard to separate who we want to see in there personally, and who the masses of fans want to see. Personally, I would love to see Kiryu from the Yakuza series make an appearance, however I’d have many wanting me dead for not mentioning someone like Goku from Dragon Ball Z. So instead of creating a list of characters we want to see, I’m going the safer route of characters we have the highest chances of seeing join the roster in the latest fighter pass. This means we’re following Sakurai’s rule of including only “video game characters”.

Dante

Not only one of the highly sought-after additions to the Smash roster, he’s also one that could happen. Being a Nintendo title, only characters with games on Nintendo based systems appear in Smash.  I know that Cloud, Bayonetta, and Ryu aren’t Nintendo originals however their games did end up on Switch around the time they appeared on the roster; or at least had their games announced. This would be no different for the son of Sparda who now has multiple titles on Switch. Considering that he has appeared in Sony’s Smash equivalent Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, pulling over Dante is highly possible.

Wonderful 101

If I don’t see the Wonderful 101 make an appearance in Smash Ultimate, I’ll be surprised. Originally launching on the Wii U, Wonderful 101 was a unique title that gave you control of over 100 heroes. Considering the versatility of the 101 with ranged, melee, and specialty attacks, they could easily be one of the most fun characters to use. After the success of the recent Kickstarter, it’s clear there’s a huge fanbase for the game so hopefully they are next announcement!

Travis Touchdown

The fact that Travis Touchdown hasn’t appeared in a Smash Bros. title yet it a bit surprising. Considering that he wields a sword like much of the existing roster, and he’s a Nintendo exclusive. Granted that his title isn’t as family friendly as the likes of Mario and Sonic, we’ve got the likes of Snake and Bayonetta so at this point there’s nothing stopping him from appearing in this Fighter Pass. Considering that we’ve got No More Heroes 3 coming in 2020, it’s extremely likely.

Doom Guy

Easily the hardest character to justify on this list, nevertheless, justify I shall. First off, he meets all of the criteria that every character on this list meets. This means he has a title on a Nintendo console, and he is a game-based character; outside of the decent movie from 2005 which no one remembers anyway so I’ll digress. What really increases the chances of Doom Guy’s inclusion in Smash is the recent fan collaborations with Animal Crossing’s Isabella; and if you’ve been on the internet the past few months, you already know what I mean. Now again, I’m not saying that he’s highly likely to appear in Smash as his game does tend to be on the more violent side than the rest of the roster. Considering this is a list of those who realistically could appear (in no rank order).

Paper Mario

While we all want to see characters like Captain Toad appear, it isn’t likely. Toad is already present in Smash Ultimate in the form of a Mii Costume. Considering that he hasn’t had mainstream success in his own series. Paper Mario, on the other hand, has had multiple successful titles, and we’ve got multiple Mario’s already so why not one more. With a wide variety of moves that could be added, it could be a safe bet.

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot falls under that list of characters like Banjo that we want in Ultimate. Whimsical and nostalgic, these characters defined many gamers childhoods on Nintendo and Sony consoles respectively. After recently coming to multiple systems, including the Nintendo Switch, Crash is now a highly probable character to appear in Smash Ultimate. The ideas for moves that he could use are endless, and he just fits. Who knows, they could even put Coco as an alternate costume since they utilize the same move sets in the game. Hopefully, if the rumored Crash Bash comes about, we’ll see a Crash Ultimate announcement soon after.

Minecraft Steve

With the immense popularity in the Minecraft series, Steve could be a safe bet for the Fighter Pass. Meets the qualifications, check, family-friendly game, check, and has an upcoming game that will release on the Switch in the form of Minecraft Dungeons, MASSIVE CHECK. Much like Crash, Steve could have multiple costumes from the varying forms the character takes; male, female, armored, etc. Only time will tell if Steve will pop up, and we sure hope so!

Ryu Hyabusa

Could Ninja Gaiden’s Ryu pop up in Smash Ultimate, probably, will he, I don’t know, but he sure does meet all the requirements to a degree. Sure, he hasn’t appeared on a Nintendo system for quite some time and has been predominately featured on the Xbox for quite some time; but hear me out here. Ryu’s backstory is almost identical to another character who’s been recently been added to Ultimate’s roster (*cough* Banjo *cough*. Considering that he has a huge fanbase pushing for him, who’s to say that he won’t drop in.

Tracer

I’m not going to spend a lot of time on why Tracer could be included as an upcoming character in Smash as it’s a lot like many characters on this list. Considering that Overwatch 2 is also coming to the Switch, this is the most likely to happen as rumors have been cycling since the first set of characters were announced. Will it finally happen this time around?

Waluigi

Just for the pure fact that Nintendo has constantly refused to include Waluigi in Smash Ultimate, at some point we’ve got to see this gorgeous man join the roster. Being a Mario character, it’s almost criminal that we haven’t seen him pop up already. Granted, the more we wait for him the more we want him to finally be announced. Sure, we were going to joke and say that he’ll never join the Smash roster but think about the genius move that Sakurai has done. Gamers are highly excited about a character that is already part of the Nintendo universe. Easy addition, no crazy deals Nintendo needs to make to get him, and fans ultimately want him in the game.

Is there a character that you want to see join Smash that didn’t make this list? Let us know who you want to see pop up in Ultimate next!
