Mario games may have vibrant and lively worlds with adorable characters to meet and converse with, but as an adult, I don’t always have that much time to invest. Luckily Wario had the intelligence to make a game series that’s not only addictive but is extremely easy to pick up and play! WarioWare: Get It Together is the latest iteration of fast-paced microgames for the Switch, while offering new gameplay mechanics that alter the game for the better.

Get It Together follows Wario and friends as they attempt to create their own game because Wario wants to make, and I quote “ALL THE MONEY”. The only problem is that they all end up getting sucked up into the game which is riddled with glitches. Wario must go through each friend’s buggy world, save his friends, and more importantly save is game to make all the money! When it comes to saving his friends, Wario must face a series of microgames to defeat the glitches and free them and their world!

WarioWare: Get It Together follows the same general concept of the series focusing on microgames that last anywhere from 2-5 seconds with little information on the task and how to complete it. The key to succeeding is being quick and trying to figure out the goal. The games aren’t incredibly difficult as you start out as most challenges focus on the use of the A and B buttons along with the analog stick for movement. Unlike prior WarioWare titles where you are just thrown into the games, you now have control of which characters to use for the games. Each world you complete will unlock a new character to use, with an overall total of 20 characters to use.

The roster of characters offers a variety of different play styles that make each microgame unique every time you play. As you progress through the story you select a group of characters to use per run of the games. Even though you select which group of characters to use, that doesn’t mean that you’ll always get the best pairing of characters to the game. Some characters will end up pairing extremely well making the game extremely easy to pass, however, others be paired so poorly that it really presents a challenge. What makes this enjoyable is that even though some pairings may be incredibly difficult, you can complete any challenge with any character.

Once you’ve completed the story modes, Get It Together offers the Variety Pack and Wario Cup to extend the fun. The Variety Pack offers specific games to focus on a specific theme that you can take on with up to four players depending on the game. The Wario Cup challenges players in weekly challenges that allow you to stack up against others online for the highest ranking. These challenges are everchanging to if you’re not a fan of one of the challenges, you can always check back later for new ones to release.

WarioWare: Get It Together adds some welcome changes that can both make each microgame more unique each playthrough and more challenging, but some decisions have us asking for more. The ability to select teams of characters is a nice transition to add some importance to the mainstay characters of the series and make microgames a new experience with each playthrough. While you can play the story with a friend, the game offers a limited variety of play options when playing with others which seems like a massive letdown. Overall, WarioWare: Get It Together is a fun and addictive game that you’ll come back to repeatedly even though you can beat the story in under 6 hours.
