What game are you looking to most in 2023 on the Xbox?

New year means a new list of games to look forward to, and the Xbox lineup for 2023 is stacked. Whether we’re taking about first or third party, there’s going to be more than enough new games to play this year. When you consider a lot of these games are going to be added to Game Pass at launch, how could you not be excited? The games listed are in no particular order, and if a game isn’t listed it doesn’t mean we aren’t looking forward to it; we’ve got multiple lists for each platform, and 2023 just has a lot of games.

Stalker 2

It’s been a long time since the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game was released back in 2007, and we’re finally getting a new game. For those new to the game, I do not recommend going back to the original game because again 2007 was a loooong time ago. However, the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was an incredible game when it released because it offered a massive open world to explore that was fun and creepy at the same time. Without going into Chernobyl, you can expect a lot of mutated monsters and the game delivered! Now we’ve got a new game with modernized mechanics, and I could not be more excited. Now with everything going on in the world, I don’t blame the team if they do need to delay the game. However, if this does release in the Q4 window as previously announced, we’re more than ready to get our hands on it.

Redfall

Now I will admit that Redfall isn’t my most anticipated game on the list for the game itself, but because of who is making it. Arkane Austin, the team behind Prey and Dishonored, is an extremely accomplished team from prior titles, and that alone gives me confidence that Redfall will continue the success. Now the gameplay that’s been shown in recent months has also piqued my interest in Redfall because it gives me heavy Left for Dead vibes which is a great game; and one of my favorite games possibly of all time. Adding it what seems to be a well-developed cast of characters, story, and world, and Redfall is one to watch in 2023.

Forza Motorsport

I know that everyone is in love with Forza Horizon because of the open world exploration and all, but there’s a special place in my heart for those closed tracks that remind me of playing Gran Turismo back in the day. On top of the nostalgia, Forza Motorsport looks incredible, and with the improvements that the team has made to the realism, Forza Motorsport could be the pinnacle of racing sims. Will this game be for everyone, probably not, but for those who love cars and customization Forza Motorsport is going to be a big game in 2023.

Starfield

This is the game that Xbox needs right now, and 2023 looks to finally deliver Starfield. Bethesda is taking their mastery of open world action rpgs to space, and will include over 1000 planets to explore. Now as someone who does find that intimidating to hear because I like quality over quantity so I don’t want a massive world with nothing in it. With that being said, we’re talking about Bethesda who have a great track record with creating massive worlds to get immersed in with deep lore, incredible characters to converse with, and just an overall well created experience.

Atomic Heart

If you haven’t seen Atomic Heart, this game just looks incredible! Mixing elements of Bioshock and a bit of Half-Life added in, Atomic Heart looks just wild in the gameplay trailers shown so far. Set in an alternate universe in 1955, the USSR has made massive improvements in robotics that goes haywire. You’re sent in to fight these crazed robots, and if the trailers are anything to go off of, there’s going to be a variety of them to face off with. The game will have a powers system that will allow you to pull off cool powers like telekinesis, electricity, and more while using crafted weapons to survive. Much like the other games on this list, it’s a GamePass day one title so why not give it a try?

Wo Long Fallen Dynasty

There’s a lot of different Souls-Like titles out there, and while some do a great job at creating the experience we play those titles for, many miss the core elements that make these types of games special. After trying the demo for Wo Long Fallen Dynasty this game definitely understands what fans are wanting. Gameplay from the demo is difficult to master, but fun to play. With it being a day one Gamepass title, how could you not be excited?

Hades 2

Hades was a breakout hit when it released, and Hades 2 looks to follow the same success. Following Melinoë, one of Zagreus’ siblings and the Princess of the Underworld, you must take down the Titan of Time himself, Chronos, and save your imprisoned father Zeus. While it will be a sequel to the first game, you won’t have to play the first game to enjoy the story according to Supergiant which is great if you haven’t gotten your hands on the first game yet. Offering fast and frantic roguelite gameplay, expect tough enemies, randomized areas to explore, and incredible boss fights to partake in.

Hollow knight Silksong

When talking about games that don’t get talked about enough, Hollow Knight is one of them. This metroidvania roguelite is like a combination of Symphony of the Night mixed with Dark Souls in possibly one of the most interesting games in recent years. Silksong will add in a new crafting element which will allow you to create weapons, traps, and more to take on all your enemies in brand new ways. I can’t wait to get my hands on Silksong upon release is the last thing I’ll say about this game.

Minecraft Legends

While not as massive in fan base as the original title, Minecraft Dungeons shifted to more of a Diablo style gameplay as compared to the carefree creativity that the original offered. While this may sound strange, the execution is easy to pick up and play with anyone (gamers and non-gamers alike). If Legends continues the lore of Dungeons with fun gameplay to match, Legends will be a must download for GamePass subscribers!
