Survive Mr. Cube follows the player (Mr. Cube) as he wakes up in an alternate dimension after taking a mysterious pill; because who doesn’t take random pills from shady guys at bars? In this strange alternate dimension, Mr. Cube must traverse the dark and mysterious lands and defeat each lands boss. As Mr. Cube attempts to go through the various portals that led him to the boss, he must survive waves of enemies that range from goblins, spiders, pigs, and other cube people; who tend to be incredibly strong! With all the waves of powerful enemies Mr. Cube has to defeat, expect to die quite a bit. As a rouge-lite game though, death plays a huge factor as dying will spawn you as a new character with new weapons, and stats; but your past character is perma-dead. While having your character gone for good may sound terrible, you can use this to your advantage if you spawn a less than stellar Mr. Cube on any run. (AGW.com does not condone the murder of weak cubes).

One of the best things about Survive Mr. Cube is that it’s easy to pick up and play; no long tutorials, or overly difficult gameplay mechanics. Players must traverse the maps to find the portals to go to the next stage, all while defeating enemies and opening chest. While the concept is rather simple, there are some elements that add to the depth of the gameplay. As you traverse the portals, beware that not all portals will lead you to the boss. Players must traverse the various maps and finding the right portals that lead them to the boss. Add in the fact that waves of enemies are chasing you as you try to find the right portal, and you can not only get overwhelmed but also make you explore cautiously. The good news is to combat the waves of enemies, there are various weapon types you can use to combat the foes; but you don’t get to pick which weapon you get. While you spawn with a weapon at random, you can stop by merchants to buy another (at random), collect a weapon from past Mr. Cube grave sites, or collect them from other Mr. Cube’s that you defeat.

While the gameplay is quick and easy play, it can get repetitive after running through a few maps. When you spawn with a good weapon, you can easily dispatch waves of enemies with easy; making it an overly easy task to find the portals. When it comes to finding the portals though, it’s just gets really bland really fast. Many times you’ll go through three portals only to hit a dead end, and have to go all the way back to where you were.

When it comes down to it, Survive Mr. Cube is a fun game in moderation. The problem is that your experience is up for grabs. You can have a challenging, yet fun experience with one character that keeps you exploring, and wanting to see how far you can go. Other times, you can end up with an overly powered weapon that just destroys everything with one hit and makes the gameplay boring.
